Hello all,

We are having NRA Approved Smallbore Rifle & Hunter Rifle Silhouette Matches at the Asheville Rifle & Pistol Club, every 2nd Saturday March - December 2012. This is for .22 Rifles using any sights with most, but not all, choosing a scope. Bring out your favorite squirrel gun and give it a try. If you don't have a gun, come on out - loaner rifles are available.

Note there are restroom facilities available but nothing for Lunch or Drinks,so each person must bring their own.

Range Location: Approx 1650 NC 191 (Brevard Road) Arden, NC. It is located .3 miles North of Clayton Road (which turns off Long Shoals Road - Exit 36 off I-26) and .9 miles South of the Blue Ridge Parkway and NC Arboretum. GPS Coordinates (I've been told) are 35 29 28.09 N & 82 35 12.64 W

Registration & Sight-in begins at 10:00 with the 1st match beginning at 11:00 (after Safety Review). Costs are $5/match for Seniors, Juniors and ARPC Members and $7.50/match for all others.

Current NRA Smallbore Sillhouette rules will apply. The Course of Fire is 40 shots consisting of two 5-shot strings with a 2-1/2 minute time limit per 5-shot string. There are cast-iron silhouettes of 4 different animals at 4 different distances: 10 Chickens at 40 meters, 10 Pigs at 60 meters, 10 Turkeys at 77 meters and 10 Rams at 100 yards. These targets are NRA regulation 1/5 scale animals. This is an "arcade-like" shooting sport where each target sits on a steel bar and must be knowcked off to count as a HIT. A perfect score would be 40!!

All firing is done with Standard Velocity ammunition - no hyper velocity ammo, like Stingers, etc. All firing is done Standing/Offhand, unsupported. No slings, Shooting gloves, jackets, etc are allowed. Gloves and jackets for cold weather are allowed, but nothing to provide additional support to the shooter's position.

AWARDS are given to Overall Match winners & Class Winners. Awards are typically $$ MONEY $$, so it can help pay for gas!! Also available are 5-in-a-row and 10-in-a-row pins for shooters who qualify. Classifications and typical scores are as follows (low to high):
B = 0-14
A = 15-19
AA = 20-25
AAA = 26-31
Master = 32-40

Come on out and give this exciting sport a try! It's great fun for the whole family. I believe the current National Champ and Junior Champ are both women, so this sport is a great equilizer!! Anyone can win and someone always does win - why not let that be YOU!!!
