I'm seriously thinking about putting a red dot on my MKll, anyone use the weaver # 306 scope mount on the older MKll's, can't decide between the weigand model or the weaver, the weigand looks like it sits way to high, and the So-Low mount restricts you to 30mm tubes, any thoughts on this

The Weigand is an excellent mount. Rock Solid, don't worry about the height it won't make any difference on performance.

The weaver mount will marr the finish on the pistol.

I use the Weigand on one of mine and will be ordering another one for a second pistol I have.

Try these guys for 1" and 30mm optics, very good quality (no gunsmithing, except for removing old rear sight). Ordered mine from Brownells some years back. Reddots larger than 30mm can have dim dots in bright sunlight, there is a fix by using two batteries.

thanks for the feedback, I'll look at the weigand a little closer, most red dots now come with intergrated mounts, at least the ones I can afford do, and that jacks up the height even more.

It's a pistol so you won't notice the extra height.

Here is a Power Custom base it is extra thick with a Tasco on it. Shoots great.
